Volunteer/Service Hours

There are plenty of opportunities to serve! Here are the 3 STEPS to get involved:

  1. Register to Volunteer/Serve
  2. Read Service Descriptions (OR read the list of general work items below)
  3. Sign up for Shifts/See My Schedule

Volunteers are asked to fill a variety of roles or complete various tasks (with proper supervision/training, of course!) according to what we have going on at the time:

If we are prepping for a shopping day

  • Mondays 1-hour spots open between 9:00AM-2:00PM
  • Thursdays 1-hour spots open between 9:00AM-12:00PM
  • Fridays 1-hour spots open between 12:00PM-2:00PM

OR if we are open for shopping

  • Mondays 1-hour spots open between 2:00PM-8:00PM
  • Thursdays 1-hour spots open between 12:00PM-6:00PM

YOUR VALUABLE HELP MAY INCLUDE:

  • welcoming/greeting our members & scanning their membership cards as they enter S&R to shop
  • staging food items on pallets or racks for shopping
  • stocking coolers with assorted fresh produce items
  • filling rolling freezers with frozen food items for shopping
  • “fluffing & facing” items during shopping hours (keep things as accessible and attractive as possible)
  • breaking down (flattening) cardboard boxes for recycling
  • sorting donated produce for spoilage (& disposing of spoilage in our compost bins)
  • repackaging bulk dry, fresh, or frozen foods into smaller family-size bags/containers
  • cleaning free-standing coolers
  • cleaning rolling (horizontal) freezers
  • sorting & taking inventory of canned goods
  • sorting & inventory of breakfast items (cereal, granola bars, oatmeal, etc.)
  • sorting & taking inventory of protein boxes (peanut butter & dry beans)
  • unpacking pallets of mixed items & moving them into various storage areas with like items
  • packing dry goods bags for delivery to quarantined TeamUAMS
  • packing fresh and/or frozen boxes for delivery to quarantined TeamUAMS
  • rolling carts of recycling and/or trash to respective on-site dumpsters
